Death of the Dessert
I grieve the death of the dessert. I ache for the way a square could shoot pain into a filling. We made real squares back then not those frozen, terrible tasting Nanaimo bars from some factory. We delighted in homemade brownies, lemon squares, Queen Elizabeth Cake, and fudgies, chocolate with coconut dropped on waxed paper. My personal favourite was those wonderful bite-sized delights with multi-coloured marshmallows in them – we called them Dollies. Categories: News... | C OMEDIANDeborah Kimmett admits that it isn’t easy per- forming in front of a home- town crowd. “I actually get more stressed (than doing a show elsewhere) because everybody knows you,” Kimmett says with a laugh. Nevertheless, the comic with local roots is once again bringing her funny act to the Napanee stage at the Lion’s Hall on Feb. 4. One year ago, Kimmett was performing at the same venue to raise money for her educational video, ‘Talking to Sick People’. The video is a light-hearted examination of a serious subject,and will be used to help caregivers develop better communication techniques when speaking with people who are sick. She said she got the idea to develop the video after taking a palliative care course through Lennox and Addington Hospice. She worked with Hospice Executive Direc- tor Peggy Sunstrum
